AEM Delegation Exchanges Experience in Tracking and Tracing of Medicines in Türkiye

A delegation from the Analytical Expertise Center (AEM) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan held a series of meetings in Ankara with relevant government institutions and organizations operating in the pharmaceutical sector to exchange experience in the field of tracking and tracing of medicines.

The main objectives of the visit were to learn from Türkiye’s advanced experience in medicine tracking and tracing, exchange expertise on the implementation of digital solutions, and discuss the further development of Azerbaijan’s Medicine Tracking and Tracing System.

As part of the visit, AEM representatives met with the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TİTCK), TC Health, a company involved in the development of the technological infrastructure and technical solutions of Türkiye’s Pharmaceutical Track and Trace System (İTS), and Selçuk Ecza Deposu, one of Türkiye’s leading pharmaceutical wholesale companies.

During the meetings, the parties exchanged views on mechanisms used in Türkiye to track medicines throughout the supply chain, from manufacturers to end users, ensure transparency in the pharmaceutical supply chain, facilitate digital data exchange, and effectively manage relevant information systems.

The discussions also covered the organization of data exchange among participants of the medicine tracking and tracing system, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of data, monitoring the movement of medicines, as well as improving risk management and regulatory control mechanisms.

One of the key outcomes of the visit was the preparation of a draft Memorandum of Cooperation between the Analytical Expertise Center and the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TİTCK). The draft memorandum is expected to be signed by the parties in the near future following mutual agreement.

The signing of the memorandum is expected to create new opportunities for strengthening cooperation in medicine tracking and tracing, pharmaceutical product distribution control, the implementation of digital technologies, the exchange of information and expertise, and the institutional development of cooperation in the regulatory field.
